Have you ever considered the fact that “Christians are the rebels”?
In terms of the kingdom of God, that’s exactly what we are. But to see the true rebel nature of Christianity, you have to understand a bit about the kingdom of God. God was, is, and always will be the rightful and sovereign Ruler of the universe. But humanity, because of our nature and choices, has cast off His rule in mutiny and chosen to live as rebels to His kingdom.
But when we became Christians, we entered into the kingdom of God, though the rest of the world is still in rebellion. Now, in a sense, we are the new rebellion ... the rebellion against the rebellion.
But what is life like in this counter rebellion? How are we to live as the rebels in the subversive kingdom? How do we remain faithful to our true King in a hostile environment? These are imperative questions for us if we truly want to embrace the kingdom of God.
Questions for Reflection:
How important do you think it is to have this understanding of the kingdom of God? Why?
What are some words that first come to mind when you hear the phrase, “kingdom of God”?
In what ways might our spiritual lives and development be different if we gave greater thought and attention to the kingdom?
